The ISBE infrastructure: interconnected national Systems Biology Centres (nSBCs)
The core of ISBE will be a pan-European network of interconnected national Systems Biology Centres (nSBCs). Together they will span the complete spectrum of systems biology expertise in health, agriculture, biotech and other branches of the life sciences in academia, hospitals and industry.
Each nSBC will be embedded within its national research community and linked to and managed by a research institution that takes responsibility for its expertise and services.
The expertise, resources and services that are offered by nSBCs cover the three tightly related expertise domains of ISBE:
(ii) stewardship and standardisation and
(iii) model-compliant data generation.
Data generation expertise and facilities may be part of a nSBC, or a Centre may have links to e.g. national core facilities. Individual nSBCs are free to decide what the relative weight will be between the three expertise fields.
National Systems Biology Centres (nSBCs) are interconnected and cooperate
ISBE will build on existing European resources and will draw on the technological and research strengths of its members to provide a coherent and comprehensive package for users of the infrastructure.
Where possible, ISBE will map onto existing structures and coalesce facilities under a single banner, creating ease of access for users and avoid duplication of resources for providers.
